Six years have passed since England’s King Charles II returned from exile to reclaim the throne, ushering in a new era of stability for his subjects.
Except for Elizabeth Milton. The daughter of notorious poet John Milton, Elizabeth has never known her place in this shifting world—except by her father’s side. By day she helps transcribe his latest masterpiece, the epic poem Paradise Lost, and by night she learns languages and sword fighting. Although she does not dare object, she suspects that he’s training her for a mission whose purpose she cannot fathom.
Until one night the reason becomes clear: the king’s man arrive at her family’s country home to arrest her father. Determined to save him, Elizabeth follows his one cryptic clue and journeys to Oxford, accompanied by her father’s mysterious young houseguest, Antonio Vivani, a darkly handsome Italian scientist who surprises her at every turn. Funny, brilliant, and passionate, Antonio seems just as determined to protect her father as she is—but can she trust him with her heart?
When the two discover that Milton has planted an explosive secret in the half-finished Paradise Lost—a secret the king and his aristocratic supporters are desperate to conceal—Elizabeth is faced with a devastating choice: cling to the shelter of her old life or risk cracking the code, unleashing a secret that could save her father…and tear apart the very fabric of society.

Anne Blankman has a new book coming out in May 2016 and I absolutely cannot wait!

group excited

You’ll remember that I adored Anne’s first two books in the Prisoner of Night and Fog duology. I also hosted Anne on the blog twice, and she is both an amazing author and a lovely person!

Basically, anything she writes will be a book I simply MUST READ! And the premise of her newest title sounds amazingly fabulous. It’s another historical read—and listen to this…it includes the daughter of the poet, John Milton! Elizabeth is helping her father to transcribe the epic poem, Paradise Lost, but that’s not the only thing that makes her awesome. She is multi-lingual and a SWORD FIGHTER! There’s a secret at the heart of this book and what sounds like a gripping adventure and mystery.

It’s two days before Christmas, so I’m really asking Santa to consider dropping this down the chimney—he doesn’t even need to leave anything else. JUST THE BOOK!!

give me the book

I’m hoping Anne and this book will be at ALA Midwinter in Boston next month because my excitement will only be building until the release of this title in May, 2016!

Are you excited about Anne’s newest book?!?

The beguiling new novel from Kate Morton; the number one bestselling author of The House at Riverton and The Secret Keeper. An abandoned house... After a particularly troubling case, Sadie Sparrow is sent on an enforced break from her job with the Metropolitan Police and retreats to her beloved grandfather's cottage in Cornwall. There she finds herself at a loose end, until one day she stumbles upon an abandoned house surrounded by overgrown gardens and dense woods, and learns the story of a baby boy who disappeared without a trace. A missing child... June 1933, and the Edevane family's country house, Loeanneth, is polished and gleaming, ready for the much-anticipated Midsummer Eve party. For Eleanor, the annual party has always been one of her treasured traditions, but her middle daughter, Alice, sixteen years old and with literary ambitions, is especially excited. Not only has Alice worked out the perfect twist for her novel, she's also fallen helplessly in love with someone she shouldn't. But by the time midnight strikes and fireworks light up the night sky, the Edevane family will have suffered a loss so great they leave Loeanneth and never return. An unsolved mystery... Seventy years later, in the attic writing room of her elegant Hampstead home, the formidable Alice Edevane leads a life as neatly plotted as the bestselling detective novels she writes. Until a young police detective starts asking questions about her family's past and seeking to resurrect the complex tangle of secrets Alice has spent her life trying to escape...

Need I say more? These are just a few of the elements purported to be in the upcoming Kate Morton novel!! Yes, that’s right–I did say KATE MORTON!

Do I have any The House at Riverton fans?? The Distant Hours? The Secret Keeper?

You can bet that when fellow Kate Morton friends, including Lindsey, Alyssa, Morgan, Laura, and Jess, and I found out about the new Kate Morton and saw its cover, we freaked out just a bit.

You guys. This is big. Kate Morton has a new book coming out in October!!! And it’s called The Lake House!!

yes am excited

The first time I encountered Kate Morton was through a paperback copy of The House at Riverton I picked up at Target before going on vacation. Wow–was that a lucky pick! I discovered that I adored Kate Morton’s style, and was soon buying all subsequent titles that she wrote. She’s Australian but many of her books are set in England, one of my favorite places in the world!

I get swept up in her books–I love the DRAMA, THE ROMANCE, THE SECRETS, THE MYSTERY, THE ENGLISH LANDSCAPES. I LOVE IT ALL!

And don’t you think Atria designs the most gorgeous covers for Morton’s books?

Just look at them!

For fans of Marie Lu and James Dashner comes the first book in an epic new series. This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she'd have to do.   This afternoon, her planet was invaded.   The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra--who are barely even talking to each other--are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.   But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what's really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again!   Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents--including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more--Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

New WoWA Planet Invaded! The Year 2575! A narrative told partly through emails, IMs, and medical reports!

A character whose name sounds the same as mine!

This is all included in the upcoming science fiction young adult novel, ILLUMINAE! Can you tell I’m excited?

Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff have teamed up to bring us this thrilling read from Knopf Books for Young Readers this October. Start the countdown!

Why I’m Waiting:

It’s common knowledge that I love Fantasy and Science Fiction–you don’t have to twist my arm to convince me to read a new title in this genre or try out an author I’ve never read before. Ever since I took a course in grad school on Fantasy and Science Fiction for Children/Young Adults and then taught it as well, I’m always on the lookout for new favorites in the genre. And we know there are A LOT of new fantasy and science fiction published for children and young adults every year.

I have high hopes for this one due to its creative narrative structure, which includes emails, IMs, military files, and interviews. I love books that employ techniques like this to tell their story, so I’m looking forward to diving into Illuminae. Also, this sounds like a fantastic book for my college students to read, specifically due to the creative way the story is told. And, this book is long–it’s 600 pages. I love long books!

I saw Jenna’s review on Goodreads and got even more excited!

And today’s your lucky day…there are 39 hours left to enter to win a signed and annotated ARC of ILLUMINAE! You can enter over at Cuddlebuggery. You do realize that by giving you this information, I lessen my chances of winning the ARC for myself. But I’m willing to make sacrifices to get you excited about this book and to spread the word.

If you pass this opportunity up, it will not be good! However, if you miss the giveaway, just grab your time machine, head back, and enter to win. No biggie.
