Hello there, Bookish Friends & Blog Readers!
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, and the reasons for that include:
-Trying to find a place to live:
-Getting a new job two weeks before the school year started:
-Unpacking boxes (which is difficult because most of the boxes are books and when I open them, I just want to sit and read!):
-Becoming a school librarian and suddenly having a lot to do:
And yes, I still have plenty of boxes to unpack and my home to set up. But I’m on the way!
Most of all, I’m happy to be back on the blog and plan to share with you my thoughts on many wonderful books I’ve read over the past few months including WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER, ILLUMINAE, SALT TO THE SEA, and THE LAKE HOUSE.
Of course, you all know I’m very exited about tomorrow because it’s the release of Marissa Meyer’s final installment in The Lunar Chronicles series, WINTER! I’ll be dropping everything to read once my copy arrives. NOVEMBER 10TH is the DAY!
Eventually I look forward to sharing more TOP TEN TUESDAY posts and WAITING ON WEDNESDAY posts as well, because there are a lot of upcoming releases I’m very excited about.
I also can’t wait to tell you more about my life so far as a School Librarian. It’s certainly not dull, and there are so many wonderful moments in the library with students as young as age 4 all the way up to 12. We have a fabulous picturebook section, and even boast a healthy YA selection as well (not even mentioning all the other sections of the library!) You can imagine I’m having a ball recommending books to students…and getting some recommendations from them as well.
Of course, one of my favorite things to see in the library is young readers immersed in their books!
I have much more to share but it will have to wait until my next post.
Are you a Librarian?
Do you have any tips for me during my first year in the library?
Also, what books have you read in the last two months that you think EVERYONE SHOULD READ?!? Are you excited about WINTER??
Until next time, Happy Reading!
Happy New Year, everyone!
It’s FINALLY time for my Blog Announcement! The blog has moved from Spirit of Children’s Literature—and I’m really excited because I’ve moved to a site hosted by the fantastic Ashley from Creative Whim. (If you’re looking for a change for your blog, you should check out her website.)
For awhile I had been thinking about moving the blog so that I would have a bit more freedom creatively. I’ve discovered that with Creative Whim, and am even more happy (break out the tea!) because I’m also changing the title of the blog to something different. (Cue: dramatic music)
The new blog name is….BOOKISH ILLUMINATIONS!
There are a few reasons for this. First, I don’t just review children’s literature on the blog, though this is the genre of literature I studied in graduate school, and I read a large number of children’s titles every year. But, in addition to picturebooks and middle grade literature, I read A LOT of Young Adult, as well as Adult. And, many of you know I love to bake, so there are a lot of cookbooks on my shelves.
Cookbooks represent another genre I’ve considered sharing on the blog, and that will be on the horizon for 2015. So basically, the blog is going to stay the same, and yet change a little too. You can read more on my About page.
Of course, I’ll still emphasize spirituality in the books I read (Illuminations) because that’s something I don’t want to get away from, but renaming the blog is just a broadening of the Books Horizon for Spirit of Children’s Literature. I hope you’re excited as I am!
To celebrate the move, I’m hosting a giveaway (US Only) that will go through the month of January. In fact, there are going to be a couple giveaways—one to celebrate the Blog Move, and one to celebrate my first Author Interview of the year on the new blog with Anne Blankman, author of Prisoner of Night and Fog. You all know this was one of my favorite debuts for 2014, and I love a good historical YA. I can’t recommend this one strongly enough.
Consider it a party all month long at
One winner will receive a book of their choice from The Book Depository (up to $15 in value) and one of my favorites from 2014! Another winner will a book of their choice from The Book Depository (up to $10 in value).
You’ll find all the details for my second giveaway over at my Author Interview with Anne Blankman. (Hint: There are some cool goodies to win over there too.)
I would love to know what you think about the new design of the blog. So pour yourself a cup of tea, sit down, and let’s chat! As always, thank you for your support and encouragement for Spirit of Children’s Literature–without you all, blogging and chatting about all things bookish just wouldn’t be the same!
