The Big Blog Announcement: Welcome to Bookish Illuminations + Giveaway (US Only)

Happy New Year, everyone!

It’s FINALLY time for my Blog Announcement! The blog has moved from Spirit of Children’s Literature—and I’m really excited because I’ve moved to a site hosted by the fantastic Ashley from Creative Whim. (If you’re looking for a change for your blog, you should check out her website.)

For awhile I had been thinking about moving the blog so that I would have a bit more freedom creatively. I’ve discovered that with Creative Whim, and am even more happy (break out the tea!) because I’m also changing the title of the blog to something different. (Cue: dramatic music)

The new blog name is….BOOKISH ILLUMINATIONS!

There are a few reasons for this. First, I don’t just review children’s literature on the blog, though this is the genre of literature I studied in graduate school, and I read a large number of children’s titles every year. But, in addition to picturebooks and middle grade literature, I read A LOT of Young Adult, as well as Adult. And, many of you know I love to bake, so there are a lot of cookbooks on my shelves.

Cookbooks represent another genre I’ve considered sharing on the blog, and that will be on the horizon for 2015. So basically, the blog is going to stay the same, and yet change a little too. You can read more on my About page.

Of course, I’ll still emphasize spirituality in the books I read (Illuminations) because that’s something I don’t want to get away from, but renaming the blog is just a broadening of the Books Horizon for Spirit of Children’s Literature. I hope you’re excited as I am!

To celebrate the move, I’m hosting a giveaway (US Only) that will go through the month of January. In fact, there are going to be a couple giveaways—one to celebrate the Blog Move, and one to celebrate my first Author Interview of the year on the new blog with Anne Blankman, author of Prisoner of Night and Fog. You all know this was one of my favorite debuts for 2014, and I love a good historical YA. I can’t recommend this one strongly enough.

One winner will receive a book of their choice from The Book Depository (up to $15 in value) and one of my favorites from 2014! Another winner will a book of their choice from The Book Depository (up to $10 in value).

You’ll find all the details for my second giveaway over at my Author Interview with Anne Blankman. (Hint: There are some cool goodies to win over there too.)

I would love to know what you think about the new design of the blog. So pour yourself a cup of tea, sit down, and let’s chat! As always, thank you for your support and encouragement for Spirit of Children’s Literature–without you all, blogging and chatting about all things bookish just wouldn’t be the same!

  1. Congratulations you guys! One, or I guess technically three, of my favorite books this year was The Lunar Chronicles. It had fantastic world-building and was an all around good read.

(P.S. I wrote in my instagram name wrong, it is actually @emandm2222, I just left off a two)

    Thank you!

  2. Katie, everything looks good and sounds good to me! Congrats! I think it’s wise you changed the blog name for all the reasons you stated. Enjoy the change!

  3. I think it’s whimsical and delightful! And I also applaud moving to a platform that allows you more freedom to write what you want, and not be constrained to one genre or concept. Yay!

  4. Congratulations! This is so exciting! I love your new blog! The name is awesome and I love the colors. I really need to read Prisoner of Night and Fog! I have heard great things about it, but just haven’t gotten the book yet. I definitely need to try and read it soon!
I read a lot of awesome books last year, but I think my favorites were the Throne of Glass series so far. I read: Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire all last year. And absolutely LOVE them all!
Congrats again and best wishes for all future blogging! Happy Reading!

    • Thanks, Stephanie! The Throne of Glass series is definitely a series set apart from many other books. I’m amazed at how many readers love the books-I’ve read them all and am anxiously awaiting the next TOG book. It’s going to be hard to wait. 🙂 I think you would love Prisoner of Night and Fog–historical fiction is another genre I read a lot of. So many books and so little time! 🙂

  5. Love the new blog! Congrats and thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite book of 2014 was Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo!
